Barry Snyder
EXPERIENCE
Barry joined Scout in 2024 as a senior aquatic scientist following a 40-year tenure as a senior principal and group manager with several large international engineering and environmental consulting firms. Over his career, he has provided leadership for large teams of aquatic scientists and toxicologists, ecologists, and environmental planners. His technical expertise is focused on aquatic toxicology, dredged material investigation for maintenance and capital improvement projects, permitting support for waterfront development, water quality and sediment quality studies, conducting NEPA/CEQA technical support studies, public outreach activities, and marine resources investigations. Early in his career, he built an aquatic toxicity laboratory that specialized in bioassay testing of waters, sediments, chemicals, and other substances using marine and freshwater fish, invertebrates, and plants. Building on his expertise in aquatic toxicology, Mr. Snyder co-founded the Southern California Chapter of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC).
He has considerable experience managing large projects in the coastal, bays, harbors, and estuarine environments in Southern California, especially San Diego Bay and the Los Angeles/Long Beach Harbor complex. He manages contracts and projects for a variety of federal and state/local government clients, as well as commercial waterfront operations. Mr. Snyder has developed a keen understanding of the importance of maintaining a high degree of quality in all his project work products, the absolute paramount importance of establishing a “safety first” environment for his staff and subcontractors, and the value of implementing a rigorous staff mentoring program.
